Preparation of tax documents
A Single Notification and Its Deadline
Can Change Your Company's Tax Burden.
Some tax procedures cannot wait until year-end. Missing a required notification deadline can prevent a company from using a system it would otherwise qualify for and put it at a disadvantage.
Consumption tax requires particular care. The regime selected and the notification deadline can affect the tax payable or eligibility for a refund.
We understand our advisory clients' businesses and plans and prepare and review the required applications, notifications, and tax returns. This page describes work performed under our tax advisory service. We do not accept standalone document preparation engagements.
For Consumption Tax, the Decision before Filing a Notification Matters.
Should you elect to become subject to consumption tax? Choose or discontinue the simplified tax system? Register as a qualified invoice issuer? These decisions require more than filling in a form.
Eligibility and the effect on tax must be considered in light of projected sales and purchases, major capital expenditure, export transactions, and other factors.
Notification Deadlines May Fall Before Tax Return Deadlines.
For example, an election to use the simplified consumption tax system, or for an exempt business to become taxable, generally requires notification by the day before the relevant tax period begins. Discovering the issue while preparing the return may be too late for that period.
Submission timing may differ under special rules for new businesses, invoice registration, and other situations. We check the requirements for each case.
We review plans for future years as well as the current year.
Under the simplified consumption tax system, tax is calculated using a prescribed percentage of sales rather than actual input consumption tax paid. As a result, a major capital investment does not generate an input tax refund based on that expenditure.
Some elections cannot be changed for a specified period once made. We consider planned investments and business activities in subsequent years, rather than deciding solely on what seems favorable this year.
Blue Return Status Is Not Automatically Available Simply Because a Company Has Been Established.
To file a blue return from its first fiscal year, a corporation must generally apply for approval by the day before the earlier of the date 3 months after incorporation and the end of its first fiscal year. Depending on the year-end, assuming the deadline is always 3 months after incorporation may result in a late application.
Blue return status also affects matters such as loss carryforwards. At incorporation, we review the fiscal year and business circumstances and identify the necessary applications.
We Check the Required Documents as Your Company Changes.
At Incorporation or Business Launch
We check the documents required to start the business, including incorporation or commencement notifications, applications for blue return approval, and procedures related to salary payments.
When Business or Company Circumstances Change
We consider necessary notifications and whether elections should be reviewed when the address, fiscal year, activities, capital investment, or consumption tax position changes.
At Year-End and Tax Filing
According to the engagement, we prepare and review corporation tax, income tax, consumption tax, local tax, and other returns. We verify return contents and filing deadlines using supporting documents and accounting records.
Verify the evidence and record the basis for the decision.
We review not only the forms to be submitted but also the underlying documents and transactions. We obtain the necessary information from clients and organize the applicable systems, required documents, and deadlines.
Tax returns are reviewed by at least two people, and our principal, tax accountant Kenji Yanagisawa, always performs the final review and explains them before filing. We value documents and the basis for decisions so that they can also be explained in a tax audit.
Tell Us About Major Transactions or Changes Before They Happen.
Buying equipment, starting a new business, increasing overseas transactions, or changing your fiscal year-end: please discuss such plans with us as early as possible.
Past transactions cannot be changed afterward, but future plans allow advance consideration of options and procedures. Regular information sharing with clients is essential to prevent missed notifications and overlooked elections.
As Your Tax Adviser, We Support Day-to-Day Decisions and Procedures.
Preparation and review of tax documents are provided under an advisory agreement. We explain the specific scope and fees according to the business's circumstances and the agreement.
