Introduction to Venture Capital
Who Will Help You Grow Your Business?
You want to raise venture capital but do not know whom to approach or what to prepare. Start by telling us about your business concept and what you want to achieve.
Our principal and tax accountant, Kenji Yanagisawa, is also an angel investor involved in the growth of portfolio companies. He helps plan your fundraising with the investor's perspective in mind.
We do not offer investor introductions as a standalone service. At the initial individual consultation, we learn about your business and current situation, then consider the preparation needed and whether an investor connection may be appropriate.
Investing Directly and Connecting You with Other Investors
Our principal and tax accountant, Kenji Yanagisawa, has worked with entrepreneurs both as a tax and financial adviser and as an angel investor committing his own capital. He sometimes invites other angel investors to co-invest.
Depending on the business stage and funding purpose, an individual angel investor may be the right fit, or it may be time to speak with venture capital firms. We consider the fit between your business and investors rather than introduce the same investors to everyone.
“8D,” a Small Angel Fund
Our principal, tax accountant Kenji Yanagisawa, is also a founding member of 8D LLP. This small angel fund invests exclusively in very early-stage businesses, including those at the concept stage or just after launch, and maintains a long-term involvement.
An Introduction That Led to Fundraising and a Capital Partnership
Alongside venture capital connections, we have helped clients connect with operating companies. Here are examples in which our principal and tax accountant, Kenji Yanagisawa, brought parties together based on his understanding of their businesses.
Crowd Credit, Inc. × Femto Startup LLP
In 2013, we introduced Crowd Credit, Inc., then a tax advisory client of our office, to Femto Startup LLP and supported its fundraising.
Startale Labs Pte Ltd × Sony Network Communications Inc.
In 2023, our client Startale Labs Pte Ltd and Sony Network Communications Inc. announced a capital alliance. Our principal and tax accountant, Kenji Yanagisawa, introduced the two companies.
Before Introductions, We Clarify the Business and Fundraising Strategy
1. Understand What You Want to Achieve
We review the business, the strengths of the founder and team, progress to date, funding needs, and intended uses. We also consider whether equity investment serves your objectives, alongside alternatives such as loans.
2. Consider How to Prepare for Investors
We review pitch decks, KPIs, financial plans, capital policy, and related materials to determine what needs clarification to communicate the business's potential. Draft materials are welcome.
3. Explore introductions to suitable partners
We consider introductions to angel investors and venture capital firms based on your business stage, sector, and fundraising policy. Our principal and tax accountant, Kenji Yanagisawa, may also consider investing.
